Theres a new reason to lose some sleep on a Wednesday night, and wake up Thursday mornings with a slight headache (from the abundance of delicious adult beverages and live music). Bar 101 in Historic Roseville has become a humpday place to be – its newly launched Open Mic night promises a relaxed atmosphere, great food and drink, and a colorful assortment of local musical talent. “…relaxed atmosphere, great food and drink, and talented local music…”

Hosted by UpRock Audio – a local music studio providing Recording, Production, and Guitar Lessons just across the street – the Open Mic is beginning to draw a nice crowd of regular performers and musicians from the area. The great part is, while it provides an outlet for locals to showcase their skills in a venue outside the living room or backyard smoke circle, it also boasts “featured performers”; local bands and singer songwriters who act as the Headlining performance – ensuring that there will be a great variety of style and vibe on any given week.

The weekly MC is Grayson Roberts, instructor and co-founder of UpRock, and he does a great job of providing structure throughout the evening while enabling a casual atmosphere to dominate; he strikes up the occasional open jam, accompanies a singer on guitar, or switches things up and invites a comedian onstage. “a casual atmosphere dominates – expect the occasional open jam, or impromptu comedy routine…”

Sign ups for performers start at 7:30 and continue throughout the evening, and the open mic runs from 8pm to 10pm. There’s no cover, and each performer is allotted anywhere from 2 to 4 songs, depending on the size of the sign up list.
